Negotiating Guidelines
Negotiating requires someone to be assertive, not aggressive. Alienating the other party is something that can work against you. The idea is to be professional in the discussion and to present your case with facts and opinion that works in your favor. Make your opponent work for their case. Have them present you with their facts and why their reasoning might differ with yours.
Be aware that it can be tough to read another agent. For instance, the other agent we might be negotiating with is working in their clients best interest and sometimes they will not reveal whether there is another interested party wanting to buy/sell the home you desire or what their client is thinking/saying to them, thus, at times it can make it difficult to determine what is truth and what is reality. It may be difficult for you but try to have some patience throughout the process.
Further, it is important to be able to walk away from the deal – or – at least give the impression that you will do so if the negotiations are not working in your best interest. This is often the most difficult part of negotiating and can require one to bring out their finest acting skills!
